LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - On Saturday, families gathered together to celebrate fathers through out the community.

The 14th Annual Father's Day Family Celebration started off with a men's prayer breakfast at First African Baptist Church.

David Cozart with the Lexington Leadership Foundation, is the director of the Fayette County Fatherhood Initiative. He is also a father to two sons and a daughter.

Each year, the foundation hands out t-shirts with a special message on the front. This year, it was family forever.

" Family forever means a couple of things really. One, it means we are all in one family, all of us, all people, all colors, and all nations." explained Cozart. "We are all really from one family, but also that fathers are forever advocates and are working toward maintaining and sustaining our family."

After Saturday morning's prayer service, the group walked over to Douglass Park to participate in a day full of fun activities.

Councilman James Brown has attended the event with his 15-year-old son for the last 4 years. He says it's a celebration that not only brings families together, but sends an important message.

"You know it is empowering to see a group of men uplifting and supporting each other, especially when it comes to raising their children and being more productive in our city," said Councilman Brown.

The Fayette County Fatherhood Initiative also hosts events through out the year and David Cozart encourages everyone to participate.
