Lexington firefighters respond to U-Haul building collapse
Lexington firefighters have responded to a building collapse at a major intersection.
The fire department says the building collapsed Tuesday afternoon at the corner of Leestown Road and Alexandria Drive.
The building is listed as U-Haul Moving and Storage of Leestown Road. The building's address is on Merchant Street.
Inbound Leestown Road has reopened, but it was closed for more than an hour following the collapse.
No one was inside the portion of the building that collapsed, and part of the building is unused. A representative with U-Haul is at the scene of the collapse along with structural engineers.
“The ceiling collapsed over a portion of the warehouse at our U-Haul facility at 2425 Merchant Street today in Lexington. No one was injured. We are thankful to the fire department for its prompt response. Investigators are looking into what caused the ceiling to yield. The facility will be closed until further notice. Customers seeking U-Haul products and services can contact any of our local neighborhood dealers found on uhaul.com, or visit our nearest Company-owned facility at 1200 New Circle Road in Lexington," U-Haul public relations manager Jeff Lockridge said.
