LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington police are investigating a shooting that happened near a gas station.

Officers were called out to the Valero at the intersection of Centre Parkway and Milano Road. It's near New Circle Road and close to the College for Technical Education.

Officers told WKYT they received the first shots fired calls in the area around 7:00 p.m.

When officers arrived, they spotted two or three people running from the scene.

Some officers chased after them on foot while others continued to the gas station, where they found two people, described as young males, with gunshot wounds.

Both were taken to UK Hospital for treatment. Police said their conditions were not known.

Officers caught two of the people fleeing and brought them in for questioning.

“The officers have them and they’re going to, once they get them identified ... they’re going to be in the process of interviewing them, trying to determine what type of involvement they have," said Lexington Police Sgt. Scott May.

No officers fired any shots during the pursuit, nor were any shot at or injured, May said.

Police found a number of shell casings in the gas station parking lot and were canvassing the area after the shooting, attempting to talk to witnesses.

The shooting follows another at a Lexington bar on Monday and an incident on Tuesday where bullets went into a home.

May said the city hasn't had a violent stretch like this in a while, calling this week "just an ugly little rash right here," one he hopes doesn't indicate more violence to come this summer.
