LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Fayette County coroner's office says a man has died after being hit by a truck early Tuesday morning in Lexington.

It happened around 5:30 a.m. on Winchester Road at Fortune Drive.

Authorities say 47-year-old James A. Hawkins, Jr. was walking in the roadway at that intersection, when a vehicle hit him. Police say the driver pulled over to check on him. Hawkins was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

One inbound lane of Winchester road was open while crews worked to clear the scene. All lanes reopened by 7:45.

Officers say the crash is not related to the icy road conditions.

This is the fourteenth pedestrian fatality in Lexington in 2018, the most since the city started tracking the numbers in 1996.
