LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - In the midst of cleaning and setting up ahead of the school’s ‘Fun Day’, a volunteer found a sock with bullets in it at Lexington’s Tates Creek Elementary School.

Tates Creek Elementary School principal Carrie Paul said school officials immediately contacted the Fayette County Public Schools Department of Law-Enforcement and they searched the surrounding area to ensure its safety.

Paul sent out an email Tuesday to all families, in which she said school staff will continue to be vigilant and check the school’s playground each day.

“As many of you are aware, our playground sees a lot of activity on the weekend. We will continue to be vigilant about checking our playground in the morning to be sure it is ready for our students,” Paul said in her email.

Paul sent a subsequent email to families after 7 p.m. saying that ‘Fun Day’ was a success, and that a parent had even volunteered to make sure the playground was safe Wednesday morning.
