LEXINGTON, KY (WKYT)- Bankruptcy and liquidation are claiming yet another big-box retailer in Lexington. After a lightning fast notification, employees at the hhgregg in town are scrambling to close up shop.

Patient shoppers lined up outside the Hamburg location on Saturday morning, looking for some good deals.

"Look for some washers and dryers and maybe some other kitchen things," said one shopper.

The bankrupt electronics and appliance chain announced the start of liquidation sales this weekend as they close up shops across the country.

A line started to form as the store was thirty minutes late to open.

One of the store's managers told the eager crowd that employees had learned of the closing just the night before, which didn't leave a lot of time to physically mark down all items.

Hhgregg is joining a growing list of retailers suffering the same fate. "We had K-Mart going out of business, of course they've been doing it for like five or six months,"said a Hamburg shopper.

Gordman's, Radio Shack, Wet Seal, and The Limited are all going out of business in Lexington as well.

While some stores in town are closing for good, others are under construction, and gearing up for a big open.

Dozens of shopping and dinning options will soon fill The Summit at Fritz Farm off Nicholasville Road and Man O' War.

Business owners say people are eager to get through the doors already.

"Oh the response has been fantastic, I mean we are overwhelmed with the level of support from our community," said chef Ouita Michel.

Despite the hype though, some across the county don't want to make the trip west for their shopping needs. "Yeah that's a big place out there, but you know what? I'd rather stay in the Hamburg area."
