LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) - A London doctor has been sentenced to four years in prison after falsifying his tax forms.

Dr. Werner Grentz, 69, was sentenced to federal prison Wednesday after authorities say he falsely reported his yearly income as $0 between the tax years 2011-2015.

During that timeframe Grentz actually earned $726,148, according to the Department of Justice. The IRS determined that Grentz owed $237,860 on that income which he failed to report or pay.

Grentz was convicted in February 2018, following a jury trial in London. However this was not Grentz’s first conviction for tax crimes. In 2014 Grentz was convicted of tax evasion for failing to pay more than $900,000 in taxes, according to the Department of Justice.

Under federal law, Grentz must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence. He is also ordered to pay restitution to the IRS of $237,860, according to the Department of Justice.
