Man accused in deadly Richmond shooting appears in court, pleads not guilty

RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - A man accused in a deadly shooting outside of a Madison County gas station had a not guilty plea entered for him in court Wednesday.

22-year-old Brandon Short is accused of shooting and killing 26-year-old Matthew Francis at the Cannon Corner Marathon gas station on Sunday.

Francis’ former girlfriend says the two men were fighting when the shots were fired. Police say Short confessed to shooting at Francis multiple times.

Short’s bond is set at $1 million cash. He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing next Wednesday.
