Multi-county chase ends in fiery fatal crash near downtown Lexington

A chase through several central Kentucky counties ended Tuesday morning when the driver crashed near downtown Lexington. Several minutes later, troopers discovered there was a body nearby.

The chase started on I-64 in Shelby County. Kentucky State Police troopers were following a truck eastbound on I-64.

Police deployed spike strips at mile marker 69 in Scott County. The driver continued on I-64 into Lexington and headed inbound on Newtown Pike.

Minutes later, the truck crashed near Maryland Avenue.

WKYT was on the scene for several minutes before Kentucky State Police troopers said they discovered a body near the crash scene.

The coroner says he believes the victim, now identified as 57-year-old Anthony Tyrone Moore, was homeless and sleeping outside when the crashing vehicle hit him.

Police arrested the driver at the scene. He was taken to a hospital to be checked out. Police have since charged the man, identified as Nathaniel Harper, with Murder, Fleeing and Evading Police 1st, Wanton Endangerment 1st, and TBUT or Disp. Auto $10,000 or more. Other charges are pending.

Harper is now in the Fayette County Detention Center.
