Two people were injured, including a Danville Police officer, following a wreck Sunday afternoon in Danville.

It happened on East Lexington Avenue (KY-34) around 5:25 p.m.

Police say an officer was on a routine patrol in the area, when another car travelling at a high rate of speed heading in the opposite direction veered into the officer's lane.

The officer tried to avoid the car, but was hit on the back driver's side door, putting the patrol car into a tail-spin. The officer's vehicle ended up in a yard across the road.

Police say the other vehicle continued travelling down Lexington Avenue until finally coming to a stop after hitting a tree.

Both the officer and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Police say they believe the driver was experiencing a medical issue when he crossed the center line. No charges are expected.

Transportation officials have shut down two lanes of the road from Kentucky Avenue to Dogwood Drive while crews reconstruct the accident.

The closure is expected to last until 9:00 p.m.
