Kentucky State Police say one man is dead after shots were fired at a Paris home Tuesday night.
Kentucky State Police say, Charles Stidham, age 34 of Paris, died after an exchange of gunfire at a home on Brent Street.
Police say around 9:30 p.m., Kentucky State Police were called to a home on Brent Street to assist the Paris Police Department.
Police said when they tried to make contact with Stidham, he fired shots, hitting a police officer.
Police say a bullet hit the officer's bulletproof vest, and he was not injured. State Police have not released the name of the officer, but police sources identify him as Officer Abdullah Bholat.
Other officers were able to evacuate from the home safely. State police say they established communication with Stidham and talked with him throughout the night. However, officers say Stidham fired shots at them through the windows. After an exchange of gunfire, Stidham was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bourbon County Coroner's Office.
Police are still processing the scene and officers from another KSP post will continue the investigation.
Lexington Police and the Bourbon County Sheriff's Office were also called in to help at the scene.
