Victim identified in deadly Woodford County crash
Police in Versailles are investigating after a deadly two-vehicle crash on US 60 Wednesday afternoon.
Police say an SUV and a truck collided near the Bluegrass Parkway.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene. The Woodford County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 53-year-old James Couch, of Woodford County.
A second person was taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center to be treated for unknown injuries.
Versailles Police Sergeant Daniel Clark said shortly after 4:00p.m., a blue Jeep Grand Cherokee was exiting the Bluegrass Parkway onto eastbound US 60, or Versailles Road, and a red GMC Pickup Truck was traveling westbound.
"For reasons not known right now which is still what's under investigation the blue Jeep Grand Cherokee crossed over into the westbound lanes and struck the red pickup truck head on," Sgt. Clark said.
The victim, James Couch, was driving the pickup truck. The driver of the Jeep Cherokee was taken to UK Hospital. That driver's injuries are unknown.
The westbound lanes of US 60 were closed from approximately 4:00p.m.until 7:00p.m. while crews worked on the scene. One eastbound lane was also closed during that same time period.
Vehicles driving westbound were diverted onto the Bluegrass Parkway.
