LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A central Kentucky organization is doing what it can to make Christmas merrier for military families.
The Building Association of Kentucky is once again partnering with the Kentucky National Guard for Operation Military Cheer. The annual program provides gifts to more than 400 families across the state.
The items are distributed to children of both deployed and non-deployed military families in need.
"It's all National Guard families. It's all Kentucky National Guard families, so you kind of know who you're helping out. It's families that are just like a lot of us; they're living and they're kind of struggling to make it through Christmas. So we're happy to lend a helping hand to the people who do so much for us," said Mike Hall.
Along with toys, the program also provides shoes, coats and clothing for more than 300 children.
Volunteers from BIA Cares, the Kentucky National Guard and even Santa himself loaded up $20,000
worth of gifts on Wednesday morning. They are taking the gifts to 17 distribution centers located throughout the state.
