LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Two pets were killed in a Lexington house fire where a woman and her three grandchildren were able to escape.

The fire started just before 2 a.m. Tuesday on Monticello Boulevard, off Clays Mill Road.

A young man living in the home told WKYT's Krista Frost the fire started in his bedroom. Firefighters said he was able to get out of the home safely, along with two siblings.

A woman called WKYT to say she was also in the home with her grandchildren, ages 9, 11 and 15, when the fire started.

Unfortunately, two cats died in the fire.

A firefighter was also injured. A battalion chief said the firefighter suffered a cut on the arm and was taken to the hospital to receive stitches.
