GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - A phone scam has been reported in Scott County.
Scott County Sheriff Tony Hampton alerted WKYT to the scam. Sheriff Hampton says the scammers are calling people and claiming to be an officer with the department.
Hampton says the scammers will tell the caller that there's a warrant out for their arrest, but that the situation can be resolved by going to Walgreens and buying a prepaid debit or credit card.
The scammers tell the victim to call back once they've bought the card and give them the card information.
Sheriff Hampton says the department does not handle warrants over the phone. If you receive a call like this, hang up.
