IRVINE, Ky. (WKYT) - Police are investigating after two people were found dead inside a home in Estill County.

It happened Saturday afternoon at a home on Hood Avenue, off Kentucky 52 in Irvine. Police say they were called to the home for a welfare check and found a man and woman dead.

Estill County Coroner Anthony Murphy identified the victims as 68-year-old Barbara Williams and 71-year-old Charles Williams.

Irvine Police Chief Brad Smith said Sunday that preliminary information suggests that it was a murder/suicide.

Neighbors tell WKYT they saw police surrounding the home when they arrived.

"I thought maybe someone had a heart attack or something, but then when the police showed up and surrounded the house, I figured it was something [worse]," neighbor Douglas Riggsby said. "[I'm] definitely going to pray for the family and hopefully everybody gets through it. [I] hope they figure out exactly what happened."

Police say the bodies are being taken to the medical examiner's office in Frankfort for an autopsy.
