LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Officials have identified the man found dead at a reservoir off Richmond Road.

Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn identified the victim as William Lee Smith, 43. The death was ruled an accidental drowning.

Ginn said a pedestrian saw something in the water on Thursday and notified a nearby fire department.

When officials arrived on-scene, they found a man's body floating in the water. The coroner said the body appeared to have been in the water for a while, but it is hard to say how long. They checked pockets on the victim to see if they could find any identification but there was none.

Ginn gave WKYT his initial thoughts the day the body was found.

"Right now, I don't see any injuries but water has a way of being able to hide injuries as well as, obviously, if there was blood, the blood was washed away by the water," said Ginn. "So, right now, I don't see any external trauma, but we will check further."

The body was taken to the coroner's office to be examined.
