Lexington Police searching for suspect in city's latest murder

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) Lexington Police are investigating the city's 7th homicide this year. Through that investigation issuing an arrest warrant for 25-year-old Damarcus Jones. He is wanted on a murder charge.

The shooting took place around 10:30 on Saturday night at the Coolavin Apartments off of W. Sixth Street. Once there officers found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was rushed to the hospital but could not survive those injuries.

The Fayette County Coroner identifying that victim as 24-year-old Aaron Coney.

Coney's friends say they had just finished up a cookout when he got into a fight with the suspect. They say that fight was all over a misunderstanding. Coney's 2-year-old daughter and her mother watching the whole thing play out.

Ashley Gibson says after the altercation the suspect shoved both her and the child out of the way so he could get inside the apartment where Coney was. Once inside she says the suspect shot Coney in the back several times.

"I think the dude got embarrassed that he got beat up and then took it to a different step by taking a gun out and taking his life," said Gibson.
