President Trump will postpone State of the Union address

In a pair of tweets Wednesday night President Trump announced he would postpone the State of the Union address until the partial government shutdown has ended.

The President says he will not being looking for an alternative venue for the annual address. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had asked President Trump to reschedule the State of the Union until the shutdown was over.

Speaker Pelosi responded to the President's announcement saying she hoped the President would "support the House-passed package to end the shutdown".

The address was originally scheduled for Jan. 29.

Earlier Wednesday, Speaker Pelosi sent a letter to the President saying the House would not consider a resolution to authorize the President's State of the Union address.

Trump says he looks forward to giving a "great" speech "in the near future!"
