A school resource officer tells WKYT a middle school student went to the principal with some information they heard about another student.

"That he had a firearm and had made some idle threats towards a local business here and some other students....which probably was just kid talk but we had to take it serious," explained Bucky Buchignani.

A Lexington K-9 unit responded and cleared the middle school.

Officers and school administrators say they are glad students came to them with concerns.

"I'm very pleased with how quick the response time was and how quickly I found out our kids were safe," said Superintendent Amy Baker.

Since their investigation involves juveniles officials cannot say whether or not anyone will face charges related to the incident.
