SCIENCE HILL, Ky. (WKYT) - People in Pulaski County came together Saturday for more than a game. They are remembering a loving father and husband who had a big impact on those around him.

Doug Whitaker was one of four people who died in a plane crash in Western Kentucky in November.

Saturday morning, the Science Hill Middle School softball team hosted the Doug Whitaker Memorial Softball Tournament.

"As you can look around today, you can see what Doug meant to this community," said Science Hill coach Rodney Todd. "As the softball coach, I wanted to do something to show the family, how much Doug meant to us."

Doug's two daughters, Bailey and Kylie, play on the team. They were escorted onto the field by the Somerset Police Department.

The family also received a softball signed by all the officers.

Players and coaches from each team playing in Saturday's tournament took a moment to show their support.

Doug's brother, Brian, also threw out the first pitch.

Event officials say more than $2,300 was raised. They say all of it will go to the Whitaker family.
