Read Allegiant's response to what it calls a 'grossly misleading' 60 Minutes report

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Allegiant has responded to a 60 Minutes report which raised safety concerns about the air carrier.

The report showed the Las Vegas-based airline experienced more than 100 serious mechanical incidents between January 2016 and October 2017.

Allegiant vice president Eric Gust responded to the report, saying it was an "irresponsible, grossly misleading story."

The company claims the story is outdated, and it prioritizes safety as a company. It also pointed to a Department of Transportation report claiming it had the second-lowest cancellation rate of any airline.

Allegiant also claims a terminated employee involved in a lawsuit instigated the 60 Minutes report.

The airline provides several nonstop flights from Blue Grass Airport, including many in Florida.
