Red State BBQ in Cynthiana announces permanent closure after employee diagnosed with hepatitis A

CYNTHIANA, Ky. (WKYT) - Red State BBQ has confirmed it is closing its Cynthiana location.

"We have made the ultimate decision to shutter the Cynthiana location for good," owner David Carroll said on Facebook Friday morning.

This comes after the restaurant announced Thursday it had a recently-hired cashier test positive for hepatitis A.

Carroll told our news partners at the Lexington Herald-Leader the hepatitis case was the final hit for the restaurant which led to its closure, as business had dropped off.

Carroll said he was making preparations to get all employees vaccinated when the new employee tested positive.

Red State BBQ still operates at its Lexington location, and staff at that location are in the process of receiving vaccinations.
