Coroner identifies victims in Clark County murder-suicide
Clark County authorities are investigating a murder-suicide on Two Mile Road.
Sheriff Berl Perdue says a man called 911 saying he had shot his wife.
"That was about the only info we had at the time. We didn't know if it was accidental, homicidal, or whatever so we immediately responded."
When deputies first got to the scene the tried to communicate with the man inside through a phone and then by identifying themselves outside.
"No response and about two to four minutes after we got here there was a single gunshot from inside the house. We then made entry. cleared the house, and found a male and female deceased."
Clark County Coroner Robert Gayheart identified the victims as 38-year-old Herbert Ray Rice and his wife, 35-year-old Kathleen Costello. Gayheart says both suffered a single gunshot wound.
"It is just so sad especially if you don't have a motive at the time. You always have the questions of, 'why', because there are other alternatives. But sometimes it gets to the point people think this is the only alternative."
As deputies work to determine the motive Sheriff Perdue says his office never received any calls about disturbances or problems at the home.
However, last week Kentucky State Police did arrest 38-year-old Herbert Rice at the home for charges related to child pornography.
Investigators say the couple was actually married in the front yard of the home about one year ago.
