Report: Gov. Matt Bevin says he will file for reelection before deadline

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Governor Matt Bevin has told reporters he is planning to file the necessary paperwork to run for reelection in 2019.

Cincinnati Enquirer's Scott Wartman reports Bevin said he will file the paperwork before the Jan. 29 deadline, but he did not say when that will be completed.

Bevin remains undecided on a running mate. The current Lieutenant Governor is Jenean Hampton.

The governor has previously stated he would run for reelection in 2018, but with weeks remaining until the deadline, there was some speculation on whether he would officially enter. U.S. Rep. James Comer told the Lexington Herald-Leader he would be significantly interested in running if Bevin decided not to.

State Rep. Robert Goforth, R - East Bernstadt, has already filed the paperwork to run for the Republican nomination.
