A new report say the state employeee who received a $215,000 raise in August has known Gov. Matt Bevin for a long time.

The two did not answer requests from the newspaper on how long they have been friends, but a former official with the Commonwealth Office of Technology says the two have had a long friendship. The Courier-Journal says their friendship dates back nearly 30 years, and they spent time at the same posts during the early portions of their military careers.

Campaign finance records also showed Grindle and his wife had a company which received payments from Bevin's Senate and gubernatorial campaigns for various services.

Grindle's $215,000 raise in August makes him by far the highest paid state chief information officer in the country, and his $375,000 salary is $160,000 more than the second-highest salary among the 50 states.
