WKYT has confirmed there has been an officer-involved shooting in Garrard County.

There was a large police presence for much of Wednesday night at Pleasant Retreat Plaza, off U.S. 27 at Owsley Drive in Lancaster. Kentucky State Police and Garrard County Sheriff's Deputies were on the scene.

Police say a Lincoln Co. sheriff's deputy was following a drug suspect at Logan Hubble Park when the suspect went toward Lancaster. They say the deputy made a traffic stop in the parking lot of a gas station at Pleasant Retreat Plaza.

Police say the suspect, a passenger in the car, then shot the deputy in the arm. They say the suspect was then killed in a shootout.

Investigators say Deputy Colby Reik was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The Lexington Fire Department confirms Reik is also a full-time Lexington firefighter.

UK Hospital leaders said Wednesday night that he has been released from the hospital.

The Lincoln County sheriff says the suspect who was killed was Welby O'Dell Mullins, Junior, who was wanted on drug trafficking charges.
