LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Chances are some people received Christmas gifts that either didn't fit or you just didn't like. Many of those people will head to stores to return those items.
BBB Spokesperson Kim Sweazy says shoppers should know and understand a store's exchange and refund policy. She says a store is not required to give you a refund or an exchange; each store is allowed to set its own terms. Sweazy says customers should know those terms before hopping in the return line.

"Do you need to have the receipt? Does it need to be in the original packaging? Does it need to have the tags attached? How long can I get a refund or an exchange? Is there going to be a restocking fee? These are really important questions that consumers should know before they make their purchase," Sweazy remarked.
The National Federation of Retailers says three out of four holiday shoppers checked the return policy before making a purchase during the shopping season.
