Russell Springs man accused of beating cat to death, holding loaded rifle at family

RUSSELL SPRINGS, Ky. (WKYT) - A Russell Springs man is behind bars after police say he beat a cat to death with a baseball bat before holding a loaded rifle at family members.

Brently Ray Vaught, 35, is charged with animal torture, wanton endangerment and domestic violence stemming from violent actions toward family members and pets over a four-month span.

Vaught is accused of beating a cat to death with a baseball bat, holding a rifle to the heads of a woman and four-year-old son and punching the woman.

Russell Springs police arrested Vaught Friday after a warrant for his arrest was issued Thursday.

Vaught remains in the Russell County Detention Center on no bond.
