LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A Fayette County school bus was involved in a serious crash Thursday morning. The crash happened around 7:30 on Squires Road near Alumni Drive.
Lexington police said a car was traveling down Squires Road before running a stop sign, crashing into the side of the bus on Alumni Drive, causing the bus to tip onto its side and crashing into a fence.
Fayette County Public Schools spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall confirmed no students were on board.
A driver and a monitor on the school bus suffered minor injuries, according to police. The driver of the car was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
"I observed her run the stop sign, and then I heard the crash because I can't see around the corner and when I heard the crash, I thought it was thunder because I see them run it all the time," Nancy Kennedy, who saw the crash happen, said."So I ran outside and looked in my backyard and I went, it looks like a garbage truck in my backyard, and it was a school bus and thanks god there were no kids in it."
Neighbors say this isn't the first accident that has occurred at this intersection, calling it an ongoing problem.
Police have not yet filed any charges against the driver.
