Sean Woods resigns as MSU head basketball coach

MOREHEAD, Ky. (WKYT) - Sean Woods is stepping down as the head coach of the Morehead State men's basketball program.

The University suspended Woods on November 22. The suspension stems from an incident that happened three days earlier when Morehead State was playing an away game at the University of Evansville. After the game, two Morehead players told a Morehead State University police officer they had been assaulted during the game by Woods. That officer then contacted Evansville police.

On Tuesday, court officials in Vanderburgh County, Indiana announced they filed a misdemeanor charge of battery resulting in bodily harm against Woods. Woods is due in court on February 9 in the case.

Woods was introduced as the head coach of Morehead State in May 2012 after a four-year stint at Mississippi Valley State.

Morehead confirmed Woods' resignation on Thursday afternoon.
