UPDATE: Police have identified the victim as 61-year-old Loren Griggs. They say Griggs died of an accidental drowning.

Search crews say they have found a man's body after he fell into the Licking River in Nicholas County Wednesday night.

Nicholas County Sheriff Jeff Sidles tells WKYT that crews from Search and Rescue, the Nicholas County Sheriff's Department as well as multiple fire crews were called to the scene near the Blue Lick Dock off Abners Mill Road.

Sidles says a woman got home from work and came out to the river to check on her husband, who had been fishing. However, all she found were his dogs and a fishing pole.

"That's when she discovered the marks that it appeared he slid over the embankment down into the water," Sidles said.

It took crews about an hour and a half to find the body. The sheriff says it wasn't an easy task with the water as high and moving as fast as it was.

"We would've loved to have found him hanging onto something and still been alive, but unfortunately it turned out the way it did," Sidles said. "On the other hand, we were able to recover him quick, and give the family some closure."

Sidles says the man was found about 50 yards from where investigators think he fell in.
