U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson was in Lexington on Thursday to tour the Hope Center's George Privett Recovery for Men.

Sec. Carson discussed homeless prevention with nonprofit organizations.

He was joined by Gov. Matt Bevin and Rep. Andy Barr.

At the center, the officials got a look at dozens of men tackling issues head on.

"The problem of addiction, sometimes those us who have not been affected by it we say, 'Oh, those people need to just get their act together'. It's not that simple," said Sec. Carson.

The goal of the tour is to help find a way for state and federal government to best work together and best allocate resources to create a best outcome.

"We should celebrate men like this," said Gov. Bevin. "We should applaud men like this, men who are brave enough and bold enough to do what so many exactly in the same position as them don't have the intestinal fortitude to do."
