Shot of Snowy Owl captured in central Kentucky

A viewer captured an unusual sight. Melissa Stanley sent us this picture she took of a Snowy Owl in Wilmore. According to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, Snowy Owls have been recorded in Kentucky but are rare.

The Audubon Society also describes the Snowy Owl as uncommon in Kentucky. The organization says Snowy Owls spend their winters in open country, including prairies, farmland, coastal marshes, beaches and large airports.
