Skateboarder seriously hurt in hit-and-run; Lexington police looking for SUV
Employees at Dudley's on Short say Friday morning they received some alarming news.
Their friend and coworker Jose Bernal was hit by a car while riding his skateboard home. The crash happened around 3:15 a.m. Friday on Richmond Road near Fairwood Lane, a block from Chinoe Road.
Moments later his coworker was on the same route and was flagged down by another driver.
"So I get out of my car and I tell her I'm going to stay with her and I stayed with her and I looked down and I see a baseball cap on the floor," Danica Brooks said.
In shock she spots Jose on the ground.
"I run over to him and ask if he's okay and he's just kind of mumbling and I tell him who I am like it's Danica I'm going to stay with you. Help is on the way," she said.
Jose made it to the hospital, but suffered serious injuries. Now his coworkers are trying to make sure he's taken care of by starting a GoFundMe page (https://www.gofundme.com/hit-and-run-victim-jose).
His coworkers are hoping that he knows he's not alone during this tough time.
"Everyone that works there they become our family and we treat them as such and we want, Jose who is apart of our family we want to make sure he's taken care of as well," Executive Chef, Mark Richardson said.
Lexington police say they're looking for a white or cream-colored SUV with front-end damage that was last seen headed outbound on Richmond Road.
