LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - For many people across the Bluegrass, the night before the Kentucky Derby is the time to party.

One of the biggest parties was the Barnstable Brown Gala in Louisville.

Dozens of celebrities were on the guest list, including Kid Rock, Alabama Shakes, Kate Upton, and several former University of Kentucky basketball players.

"It's great to come back together for an event like this," former UK basketball player Tyler Ulis said. "We're just trying to have a lot of fun and enjoy ourselves."

"It's cool, you know, I've never been in anything like this," former UK basketball player Alex Poythress said. "I'm just trying to soak it all in."

"It's almost like a reunion of sorts," singer Brian McKnight said. "People I've known like for 20 years, that I don't get to see very often. We have an opportunity to just have fun."

The party was held at the home of Patricia Barnstable Brown, who co-hosts it with her twin sister, Priscilla Barnstable. Over the last nine years, the gala has raised more than $11 million for the Barnstable Brown Diabetes and Obesity Research Center at the University of Kentucky.
