FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Democratic State Representative Sannie Overly announced Tuesday that she will not run for re-election.

Overly was first elected in 2008. In 2013, she became the first female member elected to a House leadership position.

She represents Kentucky's 72nd district.

In a statement released Tuesday Overly said she's confident her district will elect a leader, who will continue to focus on education, health care, and jobs.

Overly said she looks forward to serving Kentucky in the future.

Overly says she will continue to practice law in Paris, Kentucky.
