ROCKCASTLE COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A dirt bike crash has claimed the life of a teenager.
16-year-old Seth Barrett died Wednesday from injuries sustained in a dirt bike accident near Mt. Vernon. Police say he was riding his dirt bike on Bowling Ridge Road Tuesday afternoon when something happens and he crashed. Barrett was wearing a helmet but still suffered severe head injuries.
Barrett attended Rockcastle County High and was a member of the high school's fishing team. His coach, Matt Bryant, was also the deputy sheriff who responded to the crash.
“Just very tragic...anytime we lose someone in the community. This is a very small, tight-knight community. We all know each other. Go to the same churches, see each other in restaurants," said Matt Bryant. "Very mall, tight-knit community and when you lose someone who is a light in the community who was such a wonderful young man with such high character, it is a blow to everyone."
Officials at the school say Barrett was well-liked and loved. On Thursday, students placed a memorial in his parking space at the school lot.
Friends decorated his parking spot at the high school Thursday with things that he loved. They say it’s hard knowing the person they loved won’t be coming home.
Funeral services for Barrett will take place in Harlan County. Family and friends are also planning a memorial service at Rockcastle County High School.
