Troopers: Kentucky man shot and killed at home after opening front door

SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - A family is grieving just before Christmas after troopers say a Kentucky man was shot and killed after opening his front door Sunday night.

Kentucky State Police say the Shelbyville man was home with his girlfriend when someone knocked on the front door. The man asked his girlfriend if she was expecting someone, and she wasn't. The man opened the door and was shot multiple times.

Troopers identified the victim as 53-year-old Jon Monroe of Eminence.

The shooter left the scene, and the search continues for the person who did it.

A friend of the victim's girlfriend said she rushed to comfort her friend right after the shooting.

“I feel like it was a purposeful shooting, but I don’t know that for sure." the woman said. She said she didn't want to be identified. "I hope and pray that this individual doesn’t come back to this area, but I just hope the police find him.”
