MANCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky State Police have opened a death investigation after a woman was found dead near a grocery store in Clay County.

Troopers received a call Tuesday morning after a couple found the body in a ditch just outside Manchester on U.S. 421 near Colson's Market.

Clay County Coroner Danny Finley identified the woman as 68-year-old Carol Miller of Manchester.

There were signs of trauma on the woman's body, but investigations say there were no gunshot wounds. The trauma could have been from a fall, as the woman apparently fell 3-5 feet into a creek.

The case is currently considered a death investigation. It is unknown if foul play is involved.

Miller's remains are being taken to Frankfort for an autopsy.

A GoFundMe has been started to help raise money for Miller's funeral expenses.
