LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)- Around two dozen LG&E and Kentucky Utilities employees will be leaving for Puerto Rico.

Friday marks 100 days since the powerful hurricane, Maria made landfall.

The category 5 storm knocked out power to the island and has yet to be fully restored.

The power outage is considered to be the longest in U.S. history.

The Kentucky crews will first travel to Virginia, where the utility vehicles will be loaded onto a barge before heading to Puerto Rico.

Work is expected to begin on January 15 and will continue for 9 weeks.
