Woman accused of shoplifting $2,600 of merchandise at Belk with children

CORBIN, Ky. (WKYT) - A woman was arrested Sunday in Corbin after police say she tried to steal $2,600 worth of merchandise from Belk.

Police say loss prevention called officers to the location after the woman had been in the department store for more than two hours. She was causing a disturbance by yelling at her two children.

Officers determined the woman, identified as Kimberly Masters, was trying to hide clothes, and the store knew she wasn't planning on paying for any of the merchandise.

Police call this a sad situation, as the 40-year-old Bowling Green woman is homeless.

“I don’t think she has a place to live right now," Lt. Coy Wilson said.

Masters appeared to have been staying at a nearby homeless shelter before her arrest, police say.
