Neighbors say it was a frantic crime scene Wednesday night after a southern Kentucky woman was found shot to death inside a home.
Witnesses say law enforcement even told them to stay in their homes as officers flooded the area. Even so, police have not said if the death of 57-year-old Vicki Conner, of Corbin, was the result of a crime.
One of Conner’s neighbors, T.K. Parks is shocked at the death.
“I believe she will be remembered by her nice attitude. She had a beautiful, beautiful, attitude.”
A call to 911 by one of the people in the home resulted in a large police presence just after 7:30 p.m., but state police have yet to rule the cause or manner of the woman’s death.
“At this point, it is a death investigation,” says Trooper Lloyd Cochran. “However, the circumstances surrounding the female’s death is suspicious.”
The shooting happened in rural Whitley County in the community of Woodbine, but there are a number of homes close by. Most say it is a quiet and close-knit area, and members of the community say they are shocked that something like this happened.
“All night last night they were taking photographs, doing interviews, more interviews conducted today. Detectives want to get to the bottom of it,” says Parks.
An autopsy was done but results have not been released.
Neighbors say several people lived in the home where the shooting happened, but it is not known if any of them witnessed the shooting.
