LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky guard Ashton Hagans has earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after his record-tying performance against North Carolina.
Hagans had eight steals against North Carolina Saturday, tying him with Wayne Turner and Rajon Rondo for most steals in a single game by a Wildcats player. Kentucky would beat the Tar Heels 80-72.
The freshman did more than just excel defensively, as he also scored seven points, grabbed four rebounds and dished three assists.
Keldon Johnson was last week's SEC Freshman of the Week, and a Wildcats player has earned the honor three times already this season.
Kentucky returns to the hardwood 2 p.m. Saturday on the road against rival Louisville. The game airs on ESPN2.
