LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The season couldn't have started much worse for Bryan Station. Eight-straight losses, before the Defenders finally broke through on October 19th with a one point win over Dunbar.
"Coach was telling us the whole week, we got to be ready and get prepared for playoffs," said quarterback Jalen Burbage. "We got to take every game one game at a time."
Then this past Friday, the Defenders did it again, defeating Madison Central to close out the regular season.
"I feel like everybody is starting to trust the process now and we're starting to believe in what coach is telling us," said Burbage. "So we just got to continue to get better every day in practice and let the chips fall."
In the game against Madison Central, Defenders quarterback Jalen Burbage put on an offensive show. Burbage had four touchdowns, three rushing, one passing, and accounted for more than 400 yards of total offense.
"I knew that if we needed to build confidence for the team, I needed to do something about it," said Burbage. "So everybody looks for me to make the play. So I needed to come up with something."
Now after starting the year 0-8, Burbage and his teammates are hitting their stride at the right time and dreaming big.
"I know earlier in the year it was a little slow, but we're starting to pick it up now," said Burbage. "We're starting to click better. So hopefully this is a step in the right direction."
