LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Frederick Douglass running back Damarco Fishback scored four touchdowns against Tates Creek last Friday and is this week's Athlete of the Week.
"He is one of the ultimate competitors we have on our team," Douglass coach Brian Landis said. "He loves the game and loves to compete, and you can tell when he touches the ball."
It's Fishback's final high school season, and after spending his junior year at Lafayette, a switch to Douglass prompted a change.
"He was playing defense at the other school and when he got here, we repped him at offense," Landis said. "We saw it right away that he had the potential to be special back there."
A special senior with a nose for the endzone. In just two games, Fishback has five touchdowns.
"He feeds off the O-Line when they open up the holes and when they see the things he is doing with the ball and how physical he is, that gets them excited and want to open the holes even wider," Landis said.
"It was great and an awesome feeling to be able to compete, and make plays and constantly have my name called," Fishback said.
With him in the backfield, Douglass has the running game that has Fishback thinking bigger goals.
"We for sure will go to state," he said. "We just have to execute when we get there and get the dub."
