Globetrotters offering free tickets to furloughed U.S. government workers

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Harlem Globetrotters announced on Wednesday that the team is offering complimentary game tickets to any U.S. government employee currently on furlough during their 2019 North American tour, which includes a stop at Lexington’s Rupp Arena on Sunday.

“As the Ambassadors of Goodwill, we want to show our support to all those government workers whose paychecks, and by extension their families, are directly impacted,” said Globetrotter President Howard Smith.

The Rupp Arena box office said any U.S. government employee currently on furlough can show their valid government ID and receive two complimentary tickets to the Lexington game, which begins at 3 p.m.

Lexington native Briana Green has been a member of the Globetrotters since 2017. The Lexington Catholic product is just the 15th woman to don the red, white and blue uniform in the team’s 90-year history.

Green led the Knights to two state championships before playing at the University of Texas - El Paso.
