LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Last year Henry Clay lost in the second round of the playoffs, but the team has worked hard through the offseason and expects better this year.
Coach Sam Simpson says of his players, "These young men have devoted their off-season to getting ready to be football players."
Dorien Hardin agrees. "I feel like this year we are going to really shock the city. Last year we had a great season, but we didn't live up to expectations."
2018 looks good for the Blue Devils, who bring back Ramond Jackson and Langston Jackson. Coach Simpson said Raymond once had seven interceptions in one game. "He was named one of the top 50 players in the state."
Offensively Langston will carry the bulk of the offense. Hardin says about the two Johnsons. "Those two are our dynamic duo. Without them, we don't know where this you would be."
Henry Clay also brings back experience in the trenches.
Center Will Gregory says, "We also got a really strong linebacker corps this year. I don't feel like we're weak anywhere."
