LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Henry Clay quarterback D.J. VanHorn has been named the Athlete of the Week, after leading the Blue Devils to a 51-27 win over Scott Co. last Friday.
VanHorn accounted for a pair of passing touchdowns and a pair of rushing touchdowns as Henry Clay snapped an eight-year losing streak to the Cardinals.
"We are not what our record shows,” VanHorn said. “We are better than that and we have so many great players. We couldn't do it without them."
After starting the season 1-3, the Blue Devils have won two straight, including a 30-7 at Lafayette, to run their record to 3-3.
"We did not carry on our shoulders their winning streak,” coach Sam Simpson said. “It's impressive. It was about that Friday night and that group of young men, and the team across the line of scrimmage from us."
Against the Cardinals, VanHorn racked up nearly 400 yards. It was a statement performance.
"Everybody was surprised, but I was expecting to win," VanHorn said.
