LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -- Following its best regular season since 1977, Kentucky has been picked to face off with Penn State in the 2019 Citrus Bowl on January 1 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
The Citrus Bowl will be played at 1:00.
With a 9-3 record, 2018 is just the fourth time in school history that the Wildcats have won nine regular season games. Kentucky has also tied or improved its record every season since Mark Stoops became head coach back in 2013.
Kentucky also has four wins this season over teams that have won at least eight games. That list includes Florida, Mississippi State, Missouri and Middle Tennessee.
"We’re very pleased to earn another bowl bid and honored to receive an invitation from the VRBO Citrus Bowl,” Mark Stoops said. “It will be exciting for us to play in this bowl for the first time. It will be a great challenge to play Penn State, an outstanding team with great tradition.”
Penn State finished the regular season with a 9-3 record as well and ended its season with three straight wins.
The Nittany Lions and Wildcats have met five times with Penn State leading the series history 3-2. Their last meeting came back on January 1, 1999 in the Outback Bowl. Tim Couch and Kentucky fell to Courtney Brown and Penn State 26-14.
